This course is designed to assist residents or experienced clinicians in preparing for the ABPTS  Orthopedic Board Certification Examination. It was designed to cover the information on the Orthopedic Description of Specialty Practice, this course includes online asynchronous lecture as well as a recommended reading list for self-study of the core materials that are frequently used to formulate questions on the Orthopedic Specialty Boards Examination. There are three examinations; one 50 question pre-test, one half-length 100 question midterm and 1 full-length 200 question exam 

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the levels of the ICF model within orthopedic physical therapy practice. 
  • Apply evidence-based practice to clinical decision-making regarding screening, assessment, and intervention in physical therapy care for patients with orthopedic diagnoses. 
  • Describe the anatomical and biomechanical restraints that impact different joints during musculoskeletal care. 
  • Differentiate and appraise special tests in each body region based on current evidence-based psychometrics. 
  • Interpret examination findings to develop an appropriate prognosis and plan of care related to physical therapy for patients with orthopedic diagnoses. 
  • Explain concepts of pain science and how they relate to patients with orthopedic diagnoses. 
  • Discriminate and identify the differential diagnoses that may be present during the care of patients with orthopedic diagnoses. 
  • Analyze and appraise current literature to ensure that best practice evidence-informed care is being delivered to their patients. 
  • Develop a thorough knowledge base that will be used within their clinical practice and during the OCS examination.
