The purpose of Evidence In Motion’s Sports Medicine Competencies course is to prepare sports medicine personnel to become productive members of the sports medicine team. EIM’s Sports Medicine Competencies course will cover many of the facets that are included the management a patient/athlete, including, but not limited to: pre- participation screenings, evaluation of running and throwing mechanics, taping and bracing, return to sport testing, concussion management, dermatologic conditions, and injury prevention programs.

Weekly content consists of required and optional readings, podcasts, asynchronous lectures, as well as written and video assignments.

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Utilize information from self-report measures, history and pre-participation musculoskeletal screenings to guide evidence-based decision making and recommendations to a team physician regarding sports participation and/or need for rehabilitation.
  • Implement a clinical examination of functional movement utilizing evidence-based assessment tools.
  • Analyze athletic movement across different athletic populations to assess and mitigate the risk of injury.
  • Examine findings from a clinical examination and an evaluation of athletic movement to prescribe targeted exercises and injury prevention strategies.
  • Select neuromuscular training and therapeutic exercise based on current best evidence for the rehabilitation of the physically active individual.
  • Identify the appropriate measures for a concussion evaluation and classify concussions into various clinical profiles based on their findings.
  • Identify the appropriate context for taping and bracing and be able to implement taping techniques with athletic populations.
  • Produce a robust and comprehensive return to sport assessment for athletic injuries.
  • Identify common dermatologic conditions seen in the athletic population and understand specific state and NCAA requirements for return to play.
