It’s the Inside Leadership Podcast with Daphne Scott! Marta Wilmes joins Daphne, this week, to discuss the benefits of feeling bad. Yes, that is correct. Anger, fear, sadness, etc. These emotions are “non-preferred” for sure, but they can have a benefit. These “benefits” can help us grow, keep us safe, humble us (in a very good way), and even help us to understand others around us (to name a few).
For example, fear and anger are very closely linked. If we understand fight and flight this makes a lot of sense; the fight, flight (and freeze and faint) are all fear responses. When we, or others, express anger, many times it’s a fear-based response. A car almost hits us and we get angry at the driver but, really, we were afraid for our life in that moment.
It’s important to understand each of these emotions, how they affect us and others, and how we can begin to learn to master, not only the understanding of these emotions, but also the actions and reactions to these emotions!
