This course explores strategies for supporting student resilience, wellness, and achievement in the demanding environment of healthcare education. Faculty will practice coaching techniques that help students overcome challenges while fostering self-efficacy and persistence. Special focus will be given to inclusive teaching practices that promote equity and belonging, as well as the use of institutional resources to support at-risk learners. Participants will engage in case-based scenarios to identify barriers to student success and implement effective interventions. Faculty will leave with a toolkit of strategies to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment that empowers every student to thrive.
Upon completion of the course, the successful learner will be able to:
1. Academic Coaching: Create resources, strategies, and interventions that build a culture of resilience and support student success through the academic rigors of graduate healthcare education.
1.1. Influence student success through interventions that build a culture of resilience.
1.2. Describe strategies to support student challenges/issues that limit success.
1.3. Demonstrate knowledge of university resources to assist students in crisis.
2. Test-Taking Strategies and Coaching for Board Readiness: Equip faculty with strategies to coach students in effective test-taking, exam preparation, and confidence-building to support success on high-stakes board examinations.
2.1. Summarize evidence-based test-taking strategies that enhance performance on high-stakes examinations.
2.2. Apply coaching methods that help students manage exam-related anxiety and improve confidence.
2.3. Demonstrate approaches to guiding students in creating individualized study plans that align with board exam content outlines.
2.4. Evaluate faculty’s role in building a culture of preparedness and accountability for board passage outcomes.
