This course introduces the core principles of learning science and their application to graduate healthcare education. Faculty will examine how learning occurs across the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, and how these domains interact in clinical preparation. Through the lens of major learning theories, participants will analyze strategies that support student motivation, competence, and self-directed learning. Emphasis will be placed on universal design concepts and approaches that enhance inclusiveness and accessibility. Faculty will leave with tools to intentionally design teaching that maximizes engagement and supports diverse learners.
Science of Learning – Examine core learning theories and their application across the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of healthcare education. Faculty will critically evaluate how these theories influence knowledge acquisition, professional behaviors, and skill development, forming the foundation for evidence-based teaching practices.
Application of Learning Theory – Develop high-impact course offerings and instructional strategies based upon learning science theory and universal design concepts that support students’ motivation, competence, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning.
