EIM’s PTA Orthopaedic Skills Weekend Intensive/Virtual Lab Course is an interactive course designed to enhance the participant’s knowledge and skill level in the evidence-based management of individuals with common upper and lower quarter disorders and dysfunction. Participants will gain pragmatic knowledge in the areas of safety, professionalism, clinical decision-making, pain neuroscience education and data collection. In addition, attendees will learn and practice evidence-based manual techniques and exercise interventions in order to improve patient outcomes. For the best learning scenario for attendees, 8 to 10 hours of online learning precede the weekend course. Pre-course work is not required for students in the PTA Specialty Certification in Orthopaedics program who already completed required foundational components.

Course Objectives/Outcomes

• Discuss and implement pain neuroscience education for the appropriate patient case.
• Demonstrate safe and professional behaviors when treating patients with common musculoskeletal conditions.
• Synthesize and analyze data from the upper quarter/lower quarter clinical examination based on best practice.
• Enhance the clinical decision-making of the PTA treating a patient with upper and lower quarter conditions and dysfunction.
• Select, implement, and defend decision-making related to key elements of a basic and advanced exercise prescription for patients dealing with common upper and lower quarter conditions and dysfunction, within the PT plan of care.
• Select, implement, and defend decision-making related to manual techniques for patients dealing with common upper and lower quarter conditions and dysfunction, within the PT plan of care.
