This course is designed to improve the clinician’s understanding of frequently performed orthopaedic surgical procedures and the current best evidence in the rehabilitative management of patients who have undergone these proceduresThe evidence comparing surgical to non-surgical interventions will also be presented to give the clinician the tools necessary to select the best course of action for a given patient, as well as be able to counsel patients on the choices they have for treatment.   

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate content area knowledge related to indications and considerations related to common surgical interventions and the post-operative rehabilitation and protocols specific to these interventions.    
  • Recognize how factors such as nutrition, sleep, tissue healing properties, co-morbidities, and other lifestyle factors influence the overall course of rehabilitation and patient prognosis post-surgically.    
  • Evaluate and apply the current best evidence regarding the effectiveness of conservative vs surgical interventions for common orthopaedic conditions. 
  • Integrate knowledge of current best evidence with relevant patient factors and apply this to a specific surgical case to discuss patient prognosis and proper course of rehabilitation.
