For: PT, ATC

This course is designed for mentors of EIM’s accredited residency programs. This course will analyze mentoring through multiple lenses. We incorporate the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) quality standards for residency program mentors, the clinical reasoning model used in EIM’s didactic courses, the mentor/mentee relationship, the mentor’s responsibilities, the process of running a mentoring session, and the grievance and remediation processes for key players in the mentoring relationship.

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Learners will define a residency-level mentor and differentiate this from other types of instructors/mentors by completing a multiple-choice quiz with at least 80% accuracy.
  • Learners will establish an effective mentoring relationship as demonstrated in the quarterly reviews by the RML, the mentorship observation video (MSO), and reviewed by the participant assessment of the mentor.
  • Learners will demonstrate effective mentoring skills through a mentoring session observation video.
  • Learners will appraise the hypothetico-deductive model, the ICF model, SINSS model, SCRIPT tool, body charts, and other associated clinical reasoning tools by completing a multiple-choice quiz with at least 80% accuracy.
  • Learners will demonstrate ongoing effective mentoring skills throughout the resident’s hours as demonstrated by feedback on videos and live sessions or undergo mediation.
  • Learners will attest that they have either participated in the respective residency program’s live orientation webinar or viewed the recording and that they understand EIM’s requirements and policies.
