This course is designed to enhance the participant’s knowledge and/or skill level in the evidence-based management of individuals with lower extremity disorders and dysfunction. This course is offered in three different formats, with an emphasis on either hands-on skills or didactic knowledge.

Course Details and Objectives

  • Price: $600
    Hours: 30

This weekend intensive lab focuses on the clinical reasoning and hands-on skill development necessary to effectively integrate manual physical therapy examination and intervention techniques into clinical management. Classification systems, outcomes assessment tools, and the application of diagnostic imaging are discussed as components of the diagnostic process within the framework of evidence-based practice.

Upon completion of this course, a successful learner will be able to:

    1. Identify and perform key elements of the lower extremity subjective and objective clinical examination, with particular emphasis on active and passive motion testing with overpressure, hip, knee and ankle differential testing, and special tests.
    2. Synthesize and analyze data from the lower extremity clinical examination based on signs and symptoms, diagnostic clusters, clinical practice guidelines and/or treatment-based classifications.
    3. Determine a diagnosis and/or impairments using sound clinical reasoning and current best evidence to guide patient/client management.
    4. Engage in the diagnostic process to establish differential diagnoses across systems & across the life span.
    5. Utilize a consistent clinical process to effectively screen for systemic disease and nonmusculoskeletal pathology in patients with lower extremity pain.
    6. Justify the selection of manual therapy techniques or integrated exercise using clinical reasoning and application of current best evidence.
    7. Perform selected upper extremity manipulation and mobilization techniques in patients with lower extremity pain or dysfunction.
  • Price: $600
    Hours: 24

The virtual lab course is made up of modules that include both self-directed and active learning. The self-directed lab portion is a video-instructed clinical application class consisting of orthopedic evaluation and treatment techniques. There are multiple short lectures with technique demonstration videos in each module which learners view independently. The active learning portion of the course includes activities such as technique practice on a partner; recording various technique demonstrations for viewing by peers and faculty via an asynchronous learning platform; and live, synchronous sessions in an online meeting platform. Synchronous sessions emphasize clinical decision-making and application of the techniques learned in the lab.

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

    1. Perform key elements of a lower quarter screening exam.
    2. Demonstrate key examination tests and measures for the lower quarter.
    3. Analyze the examination results and select the best intervention using a case-based example.
    4. Perform key treatment techniques for the upper quarter.
    5. Be able to reflect on the effectiveness of the intervention strategy.
    6. Match the selection of the exercise prescription to support the manual technique
  • Price: $1200
    Hours: 41

This course builds upon a physical therapist’s prior knowledge of the management of those with lower extremity disorders. The course provides learners with additional knowledge to optimize outcome and enhance the quality of care for those with lower extremity related disorders.

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

    1. Synthesize foundational knowledge of anatomy and physiology, movement science, pathology/pathophysiology, pain science, with current physical therapy theory and evidenced informed practice.
    2. Integrate a systematic person-centered clinical reasoning and decision-making process with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) model.
    3. Reflect on one’s ability to conduct a subjective examination that guides clinical decision making, builds a therapeutic alliance, and facilitates optimal outcome.
    4. Reflect on one’s ability to conduct a physical examination that guides further clinical decisions.
    5. Develop an inclusive, person-centered, effective, plan of care guided by the patient interview and physical examination.
    6. Evaluate intervention provided by interpreting clinical outcomes appropriately and adjusting a plan of care accordingly.
    7. Reflect upon clinical outcomes, knowledge, current expertise as a mechanism to guide further professional growth

  • Why EIM

We’re reimagining health care education that takes you to the next next level. With learning that takes place where you are, evidence-based practice, and better outcomes for your patients, our education is transformative. That’s why EIM.

  • You should take it! Great content, great practice of manual skills. If you treat LE pathology whether that is post-op, acute or chronic MSK injuries, and/or if you have direct access then you NEED to go through this course. Course Graduate

  • Awesome course- learned a lot of new skills for treating the ankle and knee, including mobilization, and just doing the same things in a different way which may be more beneficial. Highly recommend. Course Graduate
