 Healthcare practitioners see a large variety of clients with an equal variety of comorbidities. These complex client scenarios require strong knowledge of lifestyle medicine principles and how to appropriately implement this knowledge. This course will expand on how to do a health risk appraisal and its ancillary tests including body composition. The participant will gain the know-how of implementing behavior change when considering exercise prescription and other key pillars of health and wellness.  

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Explain diagnostic criteria for common Lifestyle Related Diseases (RLD) on health including diabetes, coronary artery disease, CVA, metabolic syndrome, blood pressure/lipids 
  • Explain the commonalities between LRD, pain, and inflammation 
  • Cite scientific evidence supporting exercise with LRD and pain 
  • Discuss use of exercise as adjunct and or alternative to medication for LRD and pain 
  • Analyze basic blood tests related to LRD 
  • List appropriate coaching questions related to all stages of change for LRD and pain 
  • Explain how to perform and utilize a Health Risk Assessment 
  • Discuss multiple sleep strategies to change behavior and hygiene 
  • Differentiate terminology that is similar to Lifestyle Medicine 
  • List appropriate strategies for stress and coping including MBSR
