Teaching pain via telehealth

Physical therapists, occupational therapists and other clinicians are increasingly turning to telehealth to treat patients and continue providing help.

Our pain science team has received many questions about how to teach people about pain through a telehealth appointment. Dr. Adriaan Louw has provided a video of a Telehealth appointment with an actual patient to demonstrate how to teach people about pain in this format. In this appointment, he utilizes the Why You Hurt system, ensures the appointment is conversational and provides an important touchpoint for this patient during a time when all of us are a little more isolated.

Adriaan earned his undergraduate, master’s degree and PhD in physiotherapy from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa.
