––– Prerequisite
Functional Dry Needling® Level 1
For: PT, PHYSIO, MD, DC, DO, RN, NP, PA, ATC, OT, Other licensed healthcare providers

This course provides an in-depth, practical, and compliance-focused exploration of how to bill for dry needling (DN) procedures across Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and out-of-network environments. Learners will develop the ability to interpret payer policies, apply DN billing decision trees, navigate non-covered DN workflows, and implement cash-pay and ABN processes correctly. This course emphasizes real-world billing mechanics, payer variability, and compliance safeguards to ensure clinicians bill DN safely, ethically, and accurately.

Dry needling billing is one of the most variable and misunderstood areas of rehabilitation reimbursement. This course equips clinicians with the knowledge and tools needed to bill DN compliantly, prevent predictable denials, and protect both patients and clinics from billing errors. Overall Course Objectives (Intermediate Level): Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Interpret payer-specific DN coverage rules using AMA CPT guidance and CMS policy.
  2. Apply DN billing decision trees across Medicare, MA, Medicaid, commercial, and OON plans.
  3. Analyze payer medical policies to determine DN coverage, exclusions, and PA requirements.
  4. Evaluate when DN must be cash-pay and implement compliant consent workflows.
  5. Create appropriate DN billing pathways using case-based reasoning and compliance logic.
