Bio

Derek Clewley, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS, FAAOMPT is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University and Associate Director of the Duke Center of Excellence in Manual and Manipulative Therapy. A leader in physical therapy education and research, Dr. Clewley has played a central role in developing innovative residency and fellowship programs.

He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, including clinical practice guidelines and systematic reviews that have contributed to the advancement of musculoskeletal care. His research interests include manual therapy, implementation science, health services research, and professional development.

Dr. Clewley has been engaged in clinical practice since 2002 and entered academia in 2016. He earned a Master’s in Physical Therapy in 2002, completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2007, graduated from the Evidence in Motion Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship in 2010, and earned his PhD in 2018. He is board-certified in orthopaedic physical therapy and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. Dr. Clewley is deeply committed to mentorship and the advancement of evidence-based orthopaedic physical therapy education.
