Dr. Courtney Barnes graduated from the University of Michigan residency program and began her career as an OB/GYN at the University of Missouri- Columbia in 2009. She formed the Breastfeeding Support Team and led Women’s and Children’s Hospital to its Baby-Friendly designation in 2015. She started a midwifery program and worked with architects to build low-intervention birth rooms. In 2018, she led the CenteringPregnancy project – a national program to implement group prenatal care. Dr. Barnes has a busy thriving practice and strives to empower and educate patients. She is a champion of informed patient choice, radical consent and body autonomy. Much of her time is spent advocating for policy change while connecting with community partners to improve the women’s health landscape of Columbia, MO.
Dr. Barnes has a supportive, gifted husband, and together, they are raising their two independent, precocious and intelligent daughters.
