Introduction to Geriatric Rehabilitation
For: PT, OT


The goal of this 6-week, faculty-led, online course will provide learners with the skills they need to effectively manage various neurologic conditions that are commonly seen in the older adult population. Through lecture, discussion, and other assessments, students will grow their clinical skills with confidence to provide optimal, evidence-informed are for the older adult population.

Course Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, a successful learner will be able to:

  • Explore the implications of physiological and pathological aging on the nervous system on older adults in rehabilitation settings.  
  • Outline an evaluation for an older adult patient with various nervous system pathologies to address the patient’s symptoms and goals  
  • Explain how nervous system pathologies might impact participation in valued occupations. 
  • Apply best, evidence-informed practices to examination, evaluation, and intervention for different neurological diagnoses to promote enhanced therapy outcomes  
  • Examine the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and communication when managing patients with neurological conditions to promote best rehabilitation outcomes  
  • Determine a PICO question related to a neurological population to enhance their knowledge base on an existing patient case on their current case load
