Course FAQs

For: PT/PTA, OT/OTA, Other healthcare providers

This interactive, hands-on continuing education course is designed to equip physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and other healthcare providers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to confidently evaluate and treat patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Participants will explore the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of BPPV, review current evidence-based assessment strategies, and gain step-by- step instruction in performing canalith repositioning maneuvers.

Through live demonstrations, guided practice, and supervised lab sessions, therapists will refine their clinical reasoning and hands-on technique for identifying affected canals and selecting the appropriate intervention. The course emphasizes patient safety, differential diagnosis, and strategies for managing complex or atypical cases, as well as residual balance deficits. By the end of this course, participants will leave with increased confidence in providing vestibular rehabilitation for BPPV, improved proficiency in canalith repositioning techniques, and a strong foundation for incorporating vestibular care into their clinical practice.

Course Objectives

  • Explain the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the vestibular system related to BPPV.
  • Accurately perform and interpret positional testing to diagnose BPPV.
  • Demonstrate correct performance of canalith repositioning maneuvers.
  • Develop safe and effective treatment plans for patients with straightforward and complex presentations of BPPV.
  • Integrate vestibular rehabilitation principles into physical therapy practice to optimize patient outcomes.
