This course emphasizes the design and alignment of curriculum in healthcare programs. Faculty will explore backward design, curricular mapping, and the integration of assessment strategies to achieve program outcomes. Technology’s role in curriculum and course design will be highlighted, with practical applications for using digital tools to enhance student learning. The course also examines how accreditation standards and universal design principles inform curricular decisions. Participants will develop strategies to create innovative, student-centered courses that support both individual and programmatic goals.

Course Objectives

Teaching methodology- Explore teaching and learning strategies that promote active engagement and support both enrichment and remediation. Faculty will integrate methods that enhance competence, motivation, and long-term learning.

  • Explore various teaching and learning strategies to create enrichment and remediation opportunities.
  • Encourage high-impact active learning principles throughout course content.
  • Incorporate instructional strategies that support students’ motivation, competence, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning.

Curriculum Design and Assessment- Investigate curricular principles, assessment strategies, and universal design concepts that support program goals. Faculty will learn to integrate interprofessional education and continuous quality improvement into course and program design.

  • Implement curricular principles to achieve educational priorities and goals.
  • Develop cultures of individual and collective assessment within education for continual quality improvement.
  • Consider universal design principles for curricular development.
  • Explore opportunities to foster collaborative practice through intentional and integrated Interprofessional Education programming.

Course Design and Technology- Expand use of technology and instructional design strategies to strengthen student learning. Faculty will apply Bloom’s taxonomy and accreditation standards to create effective course objectives and structures.
