Assessment Mastery in Graduate Education
For: DPT, PTA, OTD, OTA
This course focuses on the development of high-quality student assessment strategies that measure knowledge, skills, and readiness for clinical practice. Faculty will learn techniques for constructing effective exam questions, building rubrics, and analyzing exam data to improve reliability and fairness. Emphasis will be placed on aligning assessments with Bloom’s taxonomy, course objectives, and accreditation standards. Faculty will also explore innovative and authentic assessment approaches that promote student engagement and critical thinking. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with tools to design, implement, and refine assessments that truly capture student competence.
Course Objectives
Exam Writing and Analysis- Develop high-quality exam items and innovative assessment tools that measure student competence and prepare students for licensure exams. Faculty will use exam metric data to refine test questions and enhance fairness, reliability, and engagement.
- Develop exam questions to match domains of learning and achieve course objectives
- Modify test questions based on exam metric data.
- Incorporate innovative assessment strategies that actively promote student engagement in learning.
Developing Rubrics and Assessing Readiness for Clinical Education- Design rubrics and assessment strategies to evaluate student learning outcomes. Faculty will also identify indicators of readiness for clinical education and align them with program expectations.
