Bio

Charles E. Rainey is a native of Poplar Bluff, MO and received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Arkansas State University and a Master of Science in Health Promotion and Wellness Management from Missouri State University. He went on to receive two doctorate degrees by completing a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Southwest Baptist University and a Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University. He is dual board certified in both Orthopaedics and Sports Physical Therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He completed post-professional training in clinical electroneuromyography (EMG/NCV) from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and a post-doctoral fellowship in orthopaedic manual therapy from Regis University and has received his designation as a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Dr. Rainey is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), including the Orthopaedic, Sports, and Federal sections, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. He is the vice-chair of the APTA Sports Section’s Tactical Athlete Special Interest Group and serves on the editorial board for the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. He has served as a lead faculty instructor for Evidence in Motion since 2017 teaching various musculoskeletal management courses. He is a faculty instructor for the U.S. Military Musculoskeletal Residency Program, as well as a faculty instructor for the American Academy of Clinical Electrodiagnosis teaching for the only APTA accredited EMG/NCV Residency.

Dr. Rainey has been published in multiple books and peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy, International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy, Physical Therapy in Sport, and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation of the Athlete: Getting Back in the Game. He was awarded the APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section’s 2016 New Horizon Award and 2014 Achievement of Distinction Best Case Report Manuscript Award. He presented at national conferences to include the 2017 and 2020 APTA Combined Sections Meeting and 2018 APTA Sports Section’s Team Concept Conference on the epidemiology of combat sports injuries. His clinical interests include dry needling, EMG/NCV, movement assessment, manual therapy, and diagnostic imaging.
