P4P Criticism in NY Times – AGAIN!

Since our first post about P4P in June 2005, this blog has been unabashed in its criticism of P4P.  NY TImes had already ran an article in Jan 2009 on the problems inherent in a P4P system.

The NY Times ran an article yesterday about all of the on-going problems that have been discussed over and over again and were confirmed JAMA’s study in early Sept.

The surprising thing is that additional efforts will be made to find the magic bullet or measuring system that will be the answer.  It didn’t work in education why would we think it will work in healthcare?

This isn’t to suggest that you shouldn’t be doing outcomes in your own practice.  It just simply means that any attempt to reimburse on measurements will be flawed, gamed, and at the end of the day will increase cost thru administration, compliance, and monitoring.
