Lots of stuff sitting on my desk and time to do the mid month file cabinet routine and am now incorporating hashtags #:
-file under “Plunger” #Dr. Oz
While I think a better use of the plunger would be for an Ipad stand, according to Dr. Oz’s orthopedic PT during the Over 40 survival guide (approx 3 minutes into it) you should use to “lift the fascia from your knee-but be careful too long and you will get a knee hickey”. Would have been nice to follow the evidence and not the sizzle on such a consumer oriented show-at least get the lady exercising!
-file under “rebranding” #ethicsirrelevant
Thanks to comments made on my Beware of the Ethical Physical Therapy Association post apparently even the word “Ethical” can be problematic to opportunistic, bloated PT’s and their henchmen in their attempt to legitimatize Let’s Make a Doc Deals thru the formation of their national association. They have rebranded to Alliance for Physical Rehabilitation. Not sure if the limiting factor was “ethical” or “physical therapy”.

APTA announced that they will do an informational Audio Conference on the Jan medicare changes-particularly dealing with MPPR. Some members of APTA who applaud the organization for their efforts on medicare are of the belief that APTA shouldn’t charge their members for this and have filed a petition to that effect. I agree and signed it. Seems to me that a telephone conference on Dec 9th should be open to members and recorded and placed within a member’s only website.

Apparently private practice PT’s aren’t a good target audience for seminars regarding the future of PT. On March 5, 2011 at Emory University a very impressive and laudable group of essentially all academics is convening to deliver a “Designing the Future of Physical Therapy Symposium”. Notably absent is the significant leadership that currently resides in Private Practice Section and other areas of PT practice that are actually involved in the healthcare marketplace. Reminded me of this take on the current group overseeing Comparative Effectiveness Research.
