Admissions Requirements

  1. All residents must have successfully completed a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited professional physical therapy curriculum or have had a state physical therapy board approve the applicant’s first post-professional physical therapy program as “equivalent” to a US CAPTE accredited physical therapy program.
    1. Applicants currently enrolled in a CAPTE accredited, entry-level program may apply for a position which begins after their graduation date.
  2. All applicants must provide evidence of a current and valid license in good standing to practice physical therapy in the United States per respective state guidelines.
    1. Applicants who are already licensed in another state may apply and begin residency in accordance with the licensing body’s rules and regulations of any state that they will complete program hours.
    2. Physical Therapy students may apply prior to taking the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE), but will be conditionally approved (probationary status) until successfully passing the exam.
  3. All residents must attain, maintain, and provide evidence of professional liability insurance. This can be a personal policy and/or company policy.
  4. If English is not the applicant’s native/first language, specified language proficiency requirements must be met.

Additional Requirements (applicable only to program listed)

  • Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency
    • All residents must be active members of the APTA – Highly recommend membership to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy for the most economical attainment of necessary journal articles and networking opportunities.
    • All residents must have current CPR certification
    • Addition of proposed Mentor and Facility approval process if not a previously approved mentor or facility.
  • Sports Physical Therapy Residency
    • All residents must have a current license to practice physical therapy in the state where mentored clinical practice is planned. This license must not be under suspension, revocation, probationary status or subject to disciplinary proceedings or inquiry.
    • All residents must be active members of the APTA. – Highly recommend membership to the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy for the most economical attainment of necessary journal articles and networking opportunities.
    • All residents must have current CPR certification.
    • All residents must attain and maintain one of the following for the Acute Injury & Illness management prerequisite: Licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC), certification in Emergency Response for the Athlete (ERA), or certification in Emergency Medical Response.
    • Addition of proposed Mentor and Facility approval process if not a previously approved mentor or facility.
