Physical Therapists in Calif Part of Bigger Picture-In Tenn Probably Eliminated

February 10, 2010 • Health Care News • Larry Benz

In December, we posted about the draconian cut in physical therapy that Anthem has put in place in California for private practice PT’s and specifically the Huffington Post highlight of it by Evan Handler. We updated the situation at the end of Jan.

Yesterday, another post in Huffington by Handler regarding the physical therapy cut and pointing out the combination of Wellpoint’s record profits and their attempt to raise rates to employers by 30-39% which has not gone unnoticed by Obama and Kathleen Sebelius.  I agree with Handler, keep up the complaints to Anthem (although if you have Anthem insurance be careful of “coincidences” like the one’s happening to him).

Meanwhile, in Tenn, it appears that the State’s Medicaid program-TennCare is going to drop private practice coverage of PT, OT, and Speech from its program altogether!

This is a great quote from Results Physiotherapy Center’s C. Jason Richardson, its vice president of clinical operations (and a great friend of EIM’s):

“If the TennCare cuts do go through as proposed by the governor’s office, we won’t be able to serve that population at all,” said Richardson, also secretary of the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association. “They’re actually shooting themselves in the foot because we’re the best option for reducing disabilities without the need for surgeries, expensive imaging studies such as MRIs and CAT scans and also prescription medications.”You are so right Jason.Hang tough California PT’s and  hope that you don’t get “hanged” in Tenn.
