Geriatric

Through my teaching, I hope to promote critical thinking and problem solving through hands-on learning that is relevant, full of rationale, supportive, and evidence-based."

Bio

I am a physical therapist with a Board Certification in Geriatrics and an implementation scientist whose research focuses on implementing physical activity assessments and behavior change techniques into healthcare. My goal is to address clinical barriers that healthcare providers face when empowering their patients to perform the regular physical activity needed to complete tasks that are important to the patient (e.g., preventing falls, maintaining functional independence, participating in leisure activities, etc.). I also develop and validate tools that healthcare providers can use to maximize their patient’s function and well-being. I am actively involved with the American Physical Therapy Association, where I serve as the Secretary of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy, and American College Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine initiative, where I am an appointed member of their Older Adults Committee. In summary, I am passionate about advancing Geriatric Care and ensuring that older adults are empowered to perform health-promoting behaviors, such as physical activity.
