Golf Screen and Fitness

August 15, 2022 • Sports • Carlos Reyes

Over the last 20 years, there has been a shift in the assessment of the golf swing and the capabilities of the musculoskeletal system from an isolated muscle and joint perspective to an integrated approach. This new approach focuses on the principles of proprioception, muscle synergy, and motor learning and control to assess the golf swing in its entirety. The purpose of a golf screen is
to assess the movement competency specific to the demands of golf. There are a limited number of golf screen tools available that determine associations between movement competency and golf performance.

In this webinar, we will discuss these more in detail to compare reliability and validity. The Golf Kinetic Chain has sequential transfer of speed and energy that must be coordinated throughout the body. The kinematic sequence of the golf swing must be repeatable and consistent. Physical strength and conditioning principles can be applied within specific golf programs to ensure that these principles are incorporated in the overall development of the golf athlete. Exercise prescription will be addressed to improve overall golf performance and reduce injury risk.
