On this week’s EIM Inside Leadership Podcast with Dr. Daphne Scott, Daphne asks the question of creating cogs in the wheel (contributors/employees) versus creating leaders with development. She discusses, also, the difference between leadership and management as well as some different leadership types:
- The coercive leader
- The pace-setting leader
- The democratic leader
- The authoritative leader
- The affiliative leader
- The coaching leader
Are we only building better employees/better “cogs in the wheel” (or more respectfully stated: “individual contributors”) or are we building leaders? Think about your past five conversations with the people that you’re leading. How much time did you focus on the management side of things versus their development and support of their development?
