EIM Inside Leadership Podcast: Why Leaders Need Self Awareness

December 27, 2017 • Practice Leadership • Daphne Scott

This week, on the EIM Inside Leadership Podcast with Dr. Daphne Scott, we’re discussing why it is SO, absolutely, and massively important leaders need self-awareness. Sure, there are extremely effective leaders who don’t possess self-awareness, but they’re usually in the form of something destructive, like a dictator. So what is self-awareness?

Self-awareness is a specific analytic skill that allows us to know what we know about ourselves, reveal what others may not know about us, and discover and learn about what we can’t see in ourselves. Essentially, it’s conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires. There are four pieces we need in order to become self-aware:

  • Introspection/Reflection
  • Analysis
  • Synthesis
  • Feedback

Daphne dives deep into self-awareness, why it’s so important, and how to personally implement it. Thank you so much for listening to the EIM Inside Leadership Podcast in 2017 and we wish you a Happy New Year! We’ll see you in 2018!
