Are you struggling to find time to focus on compassion and care for your patients due to ever changing health care regulations and insurance requirements? Do you want to be energized by the role of non-clinical factors and their impact on clinical outcomes? Can you remember the last time you actually connected with a patient and made a positive physical and emotional impact on them?

The current ills of health care, including immense fear and constant change, have caused professionals to replace care, compassion, and empathy with compliance and adherence to “cookbook medicine.” Focusing on this uncertainty can shut down creativity and limit potential.

Embrace and engage the significant evidence around empathy, listening, high-quality connections and the science of positive psychology with the Called to Care Course that focuses on the non-clinical factors that impact successful clinical outcomes.

Course Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, a successful participant will be able to:

  • Effectively focus and enhance listening skills and empathy when working with patients which exemplifies compassionate clinical care
  • Use Appreciative Inquiry to frame a positive, caring, and compassionate mindset in the workplace
  • Demonstrate positive goal setting for patients
  • Utilize evidence-based techniques to motivate and inspire patients to reach their clinical goals
  • Communicate effectively and positively using Active Constructive Responding, Self-Efficacy, and Broaden and Build Theory when working to achieve desired patient outcomes
  • Recognize that high quality connections are marked by positive regard, trust, and engagement by both patient and practitioner, which will enhance the patient-therapist relationship, and therefor positively affect patient care
  • Capitalize on positive events during patient care and get the most out of treatment plans
  • Break down negative perspectives with calcification/decalcification tools which will allow for full engagement and return to purpose and meaning in the physical therapists’ career, as well as improved workplace atmosphere
  • Incorporate tools to decrease workplace stress into daily routines
  • Enhance and influence evidence-based outcomes in a positive way for patients
