Louisville, KY - (March 5, 2010) – Evidence In Motion (EIM), a provider of physical therapy education and practice consultation is excited to announce its new Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program (SPTR). 

Dr. Teresa Schuemann has joined the EIM team as the SPTR content developer and program director.  Dr. Schuemann is an experienced Program Director who has served in many leadership roles including Chair of the APTA Residency and Fellowship Credentialing Committee.  She currently serves as one of seven members on the APTA American Board of Residency and Fellowship Education. 

“Going through a residency program was the best decision of my professional career”, states Dr. Schuemann.  “I am thrilled to direct EIM’s program.  This program is designed in a way that significantly increases clinical competencies through terrific professional experiences.” 

The SPTR is an 18-month program of post-professional clinical and didactic education for physical therapists designed to advance the resident's preparation as a provider of care in sports physical therapy.  The SPTR incorporates key Orthopaedic Residency topics, such as management of spinal and extremity disorders, with Sports specific courses, such as Emergency Response and SCS Prep.  The SPTR also requires Athletic Venue Hours in addition to Mentor Hours and outcomes Tracking. 

Graduates of the SPTR program will be positioned to achieve the Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) certification from the ABPTS.  They will also gain a strong knowledge of evidence-based practice and preventative and rehabilitative sports therapy techniques.  The first cohort begins in June 2010.  The application deadline is May 1, 2010.  Please visit the EIM website for additional details.

Sen. Cornyn To Highlight Benefits Of Prevention & Workplace Wellness At San Antonio’s Frito-Lay Facility

AUSTIN—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, will be in San Antonio Thursday, January 14, to visit the Frito-Lay Food Manufacturing Facility and see how local company Fit For Work LLC is helping Frito-Lay employees prevent work-related injuries and lower health care costs. Studies show an emphasis on workplace wellness leads to a healthier and more productive workforce, along with savings on health costs. Sen. Cornyn will be briefed and have the opportunity to see a training demonstration in which Fit For Work staff will train Frito-Lay employees how to carry out their responsibilities at work in a way that promotes wellness and prevents injury.

Sen. Cornyn believes a focus on prevention and wellness must be central to broader health care reform efforts in Washington. He has introduced two bills that promote the concept of workplace wellness and disease prevention: the WHIP Act and the Healthy Workforce Act. The Workforce Health Improvement Program Act, or the WHIP Act, is a bipartisan measure that would level the playing field for small businesses that cannot afford to provide an on-site fitness facility for their employees. Specifically, it would allow employees to exclude from their federal taxes up to $900 of any off-site wellness benefit they receive from their employer.

In the same vein, the Healthy Workforce Act would provide a tax credit to companies that offer effective and comprehensive wellness programs for their employees.

 Background on Fit For Work:

Fit For Work is a San Antonio-based company that is hired by labor-intensive businesses to provide their employees with injury prevention techniques. Fit For Work’s techniques include training, ergonomics, and identifying musculoskeletal disorders through on-site clinical diagnostics.

Dr. Tim Flynn of EIM to Join the RMUoHP Faculty as a Distinguished Professor in Physical Therapy

Provo, UT (January 4, 2010) –Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP)) and Evidence In Motion (EIM), LLC, announced today a strategic alliance to collaboratively and strategically advance entry-level and post-professional education opportunities for physical therapists throughout the country. As part of the alliance,  Dr. Tim Flynn, one of the nations' most recognized and distinguished physical therapy clinicians, researchers, and educators, will be joining RMUoHP's faculty as a Distinguished Professor.  Additionally, Dr. Larry Benz, founding principal in EIM and nationally recognized business leader and clinician, will be joining the Board of Directors of Wasatch Educational Inc.,which owns RMUoHP.

Evidence In Motion (EIM) has the solution!  EIM has launched a new online prep course to help students prepare for the exam.  The online course helps students work through the challenges of studying for the exam by ensuring that every hour spent studying is a productive one.

The OCS Prep Course is tailored for individual students.  The course helps to identify each student’s individual weaknesses with a pre-test exercise to facilitate a customized study approach.  The studying effort is focused on the content that the test covers, ensuring that studying is always efficient. Louisville, KY (3/25/2009) - Evidence In Motion (EIM) is pleased to announce that our Fellowship Program in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy has been credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as a post -professional clinical fellowship program.  This prestigious credential comes  after the Residency Program in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy received the same official recognition by the APTA in August 2008. 

This is another important step for EIM in our mission to elevate the physical therapy profession and the role of physical therapists in health care delivery.  APTA-credentialed residency and fellowship programs promote standards of quality and consistency in the teaching and practice of physical therapy.

Text to become standard for musculoskeletal practitioners

About the Authors:

Dr. Timothy Flynn, PT, PhD
Dr. Flynn is board certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, and a frequent research presenter at state, national, and international meetings. He is widely published including 5 book chapters, over 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and nearly 40 published abstracts on orthopaedics, biomechanics, and manual therapy issues. Dr. Flynn has received research grants from the Department of Defense, Foundation for Physical Therapy and the Texas Physical Therapy Education and Research Foundation. Dr. Flynn is currently President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy. He is an Associate Professor and Manual Therapy Fellowship Coordinator, Department of Physical Therapy, Regis University where he teaches professional and post-professional students in the area of musculoskeletal management and evidence based practice.

Dr. Joshua Cleland, PT, PhD
Dr. Cleland earned a Master of Physical Therapy Degree from Notre Dame College in 2000 and the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Creighton University in 2001. In February of 2006, he received a PhD from Nova Southeastern University. Josh is presently an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at Franklin Pierce College. He practices clinically in outpatient orthopaedics and is the Research Coordinator at Rehabilitation Services of Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. Additionally, he has published over 25 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Julie Whitman, PT, DSc
Dr. Whitman is an Assistant Professor and Manual Therapy Fellowship Faculty in the School of Physical Therapy at Regis University, where she teaches professional and post-professional students in the area of musculoskeletal management and evidence based practice. She is board certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). Dr Whitman is widely published, including 3 educational CD-ROMs and one text on Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapy, over 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and over 30 published abstracts in the areas of orthopaedics and manual physical therapy.
