Background

  • Evidence in Motion (EIM) is an education and business practice consultation company committed to creating and promoting a culture of evidence-based practice (EBP) within the physical therapy profession. EIM seeks to develop long-term relationships with its partners, create collaborations and assist practioners with the integration of a comprehensive EBP approach to care, thus enhancing their ability to provide best practice care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Evidence supports Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy as a critical sub-specialty of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in providing quality, cost-effective care in outpatient rehabilitation settings.

  • Demand for physical therapy residency/fellowship training is on the rise.

  • EIM is currently seeking and expects to achieve credentialing as an APTA-approved residency/fellowship program in the near future.

  • Graduates of the EIM Orthopaedic Residency and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship will be highly skilled autonomous practitioners who are critical thinkers, reflective, empathetic, and lifelong learners, representing the best clinicians in the physical therapy profession. They will be equipped with the skills necessary to teach, provide mentorship and train future EIM-Network Partner Residents/Fellows-in-Training.

Why Should I Affiliate with Evidence In Motion?

In short, it’s our relationships and our faculty. EIM has built a vast community of evidence-based practitioners, high quality employers, prospective employees, and is closely associated with many of the best academic programs and other key stakeholder groups in the physical therapy profession. We are also privileged to be associated with a world class faculty from a variety of the best academic programs and clinical practices in the country who are internationally recognized for their contributions to education, research, and clinical practice. Click here to view our faculty. The extensive community that has formed around EIM provides a “first in class” environment for prospective residents and fellows to receive the highest caliber of training and become distinguished leaders in evidence-based orthopaedic and manual physical therapy practice. Many of our graduates will become leaders in clinical education within their practice, affiliate with high quality academic programs, and assume leadership positions within APTA, APTA State Chapter organizations, the Orthopaedic Section of the APTA, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). Our Network Partners are also typically located in key geographic areas around the country, providing easy access via air travel and suitable hotel accommodations in the immediate vicinity. Many advantages also exist for our Network Partners.

Network Partners

  • EIM seeks to form an extensive community Network Partners comprised of academic programs and high quality physical therapy employers who collaborate with us in the delivery of EIM Orthopaedic Residency and EIM Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship training on an ongoing basis around the country. EIM serves to foster Network Partners’ market position as premier, high quality physical therapy providers while Network Partners serve to expand EIM’s reach and influence in its role as EIM’s regional collaboration “hub”. Designated Network Partner staff will be added as adjunct EIM clinical faculty to grow the residency/fellowship internally.

  • Becoming an EIM Network Partner will provide academic programs a competitive edge for recruiting the best prospective students around the country. Employers who serve as Network Partners will have access to a training pool and pipeline for recruiting and retaining the most highly qualified physical therapist practitioners who employ the best clinical practice systems, providing them a distinctive advantage in a competitive hiring market. In our own practice at TexPTS, we’re using the EIM Orthopedic Residency as a HR recruitment and retention tool. This has very good appeal to high quality new graduates seeking additional training once they graduate (and has been especially helpful in a tight job market). The practice covers the cost in exchange for employee agreements upon completion, which helps to build a team of committed “lifelong learners” well trained in an EBP approach and committed to our company’s core values.

  • EIM can help Network Partners expand their internal clinical education and research activities by networking its education and research efforts with EIM faculty. Several of the offerings included in the residency and fellowship curricula are also available to other staff (ie, Virtual Grand Rounds, “Author in the Room”, etc.), which can enhance lifelong learning and quality improvement initiatives for all staff. In addition, Network Partner residents and fellows receive numerous teaching, authoring, and publishing opportunities. Fellows will provide a state chapter approved CEU course internally during their fellowship. Fellows will also submit and present an abstract of a case series (minimum) at the American Academy of Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapists’ (AAOMPT) Annual Conference and publish the work when appropriate in the peer-reviewed literature. EIM’s Residency and Fellowship Directors and Research Director will be available to consult with Network Partners’ clinical faculty to help oversee and maintain the rigor of the education and research requirements. The combined results of these efforts will enhance the full stream clinical education and research initiatives. Our goal is to inculcate a “medical model” culture whereby fellows mentor residents who in turn mentor students in clinical internships.

  • EIM will contribute many additional collateral benefits through its numerous relationships with key stakeholder groups via advertising on the EIM family of websites, additional CME seats at weekend intensive hands-on courses, integration of Network Partners into the EIM Clinical Education Network, and much more.

  • Our Network Partners are also typically located in key geographic areas around the country, providing easy access via air travel and suitable hotel accommodations in the immediate vicinity. Contact us at info@evidenceinmotion.com for more information on how to become a Network Partner or if you’re aware of practices that may be an ideal Network Partner.

Program Overview

About the EIM Orthopaedic Residency and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship

The EIM Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Residency is a planned program of post-professional clinical and didactic education for physical therapists designed to advance the physical therapist resident's preparation as a provider of patient care services in orthopaedic physical therapy. The program combines opportunities for ongoing clinical supervision and mentoring, with a theoretical basis for advanced practice and scientific inquiry. The program is designed to facilitate the growth of practitioners as physical therapists skilled in orthopaedic physical therapy. We seek to produce highly skilled, autonomous practitioners who have substantially increased their ability to provide care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Graduates will have a strong base of knowledge of evidence-based practice, orthopaedic manual therapy techniques, advanced medical screening, and radiology. Graduates will be positioned to achieve the Orthopaedic Certified Specialist certification from the ABPTS and will be leaders in the orthopaedic physical therapy field.

The EIM Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship is a planned program of post-professional clinical and didactic education that prepares an experienced clinician or board-certified clinical specialist in the subspecialty of orthopedic manual physical therapy. The clinical and didactic instruction is intensive and includes extensive mentored clinical experience and provides a sufficient and appropriate patient population to create an environment for building advanced clinical skills. The program is designed to graduate clinician scientists skilled in the evidence-based integration of thrust and non-thrust manipulation into the overall care of patients with musculoskeletal conditions. We seek to produce highly skilled autonomous practitioners who are critical thinkers, reflective, empathetic, and lifelong learners. Fellowship graduates will represent the best clinicians in the physical therapy profession, equipped to teach and mentor residents, clinicians, and students.

How do I decide which program is best for me, and what are the minimum requirements for admission?

2. All residents must have a current license to practice physical therapy. This license must not be under suspension, revocation, probationary status, or subject to disciplinary proceedings or inquiry.

3. All residents must be active members of the APTA.

4. All residents must have current CPR certification.

Fellowship:
1. All fellows accepted into the program have successfully completed an APTA-accredited professional physical therapy curriculum.

2. All fellows must have a current license to practice physical therapy. This license must not be under suspension, revocation, probationary status, or subject to disciplinary proceedings or inquiry.

The EIM Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship is closely aligned with the EIM Residency. Because a substantial part of the EIM Fellowship involves mentoring EIM Residents and teaching EIM Residency courses, primary consideration will be given to applicants who have completed the EIM Residnecy. Applicants who have not completed but still wish to apply for the EIM Fellowship may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Curricula and Sequencing

The EIM Orthopaedic Residency and Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy programs are an intensive combination of didactic and clinical education experiences using a combination of distance learning, on-line courses, weekend intensive hands-on courses, and clinical practice hours.
